A Lithium Swap for Jim's 1910 Model T Replica

Jim Taliaferro has a replica of a 1910 Model T. The lead-acid batteries in it gave out, and he put a DIGI MARKER lithium pack in. The review he left afterward has nothing in it about capacity or specs. What he keeps coming back to is whether it went in cleanly, and whether anybody answered when he had a question.

Why It Needed a Battery

Jim doesn't say how old the old batteries were, or how much the car gets driven. His version runs: “The lead acid batteries went bad and I replaced it with the lithium.”

Lead-acid hates being ignored. Leave a sulfating battery sitting for weeks at a stretch and it loses capacity until one day it won't crank. Cars like his tend to sit exactly like that. Whether any of that was Jim's situation he doesn't say. He wrote “went bad” and left it there.

Getting It In

He brings up installation twice. “I had no issues on installing it” is the first. The second is the recommendation itself, aimed at anyone shopping for “a quality battery and minimal effort to install”.

On a stock cart that line is a nice bonus. On a one-off replica it means more, because there's no molded spot for the pack and nothing written for your particular car. Cable routing, how it gets held down, all of that gets figured out on the garage floor or over the phone with the manufacturer. Jim doesn't mention rewiring, or how long it took him. He says it went fine.

Ken and Frank

Two people get named. “Ken and Frank were very helpful every time I had any questions or concerns!” And: “Every question I had was answered promptly!”

Anyone who has been stuck halfway through a swap on something nobody has written a guide for knows what that's worth.

The last line is “I don’t believe you’ll go wrong by purchasing the Digi marker battery”. No hedging, no numbers, nothing about how it has held up since.
